Topic Research: Ravana

Graphic Novel: Ravana: Roar of the Demon King

One of the stories I think would work well is Ravana & His Rakshasa Family, as throughout the Ramayana, many of Ravana's siblings are introduced. I think that having a story devoted to his family tree would be very helpful to better understanding the characters in the Ramayana and how they relate to the demon king. Another story I think would work is the story of The Legend of Ravana, more specifically, Ravana's rise. In many stories of Ravana I have found, they all take place when he is already an established demon. Rarely have I found any stories detailing the birth and rise of the demon king, and I think it would not only be very interesting, but also very useful when trying to understand his motives or why he acts the way he does. Lastly, I think using the story of  The Lord of Lanka: The Rise and Fall of a Demon King, more specifically the section titled "Ravana's dowfall" would make for a very interesting storytelling experience. I think the final battle between Rama and Ravana could make for a very intense and action-packed story, as well as some great monologues by both parties involved. Also, the process of establishing the new king, Vibhishana, would be a great way to end the story of the demon king and tie up any loose ends.

  1. Hi Matthew!
I like your idea to research Ravana and His Rakshasa Family. I remember reading in Ramayana that one of Ravana's sisters liked Rama. They depicted her as very ugly and able to transform herself. She tried to have Rama as her husband, but he refused for he had Sita in his heart. I am interested to hear more stories about Ravana and his family.
